So, the weekend before my birthday, I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond with the intention of buying a set of flatware. There were a few I saw that I liked, and I wanted to try to decide between them, as well as check one more time in case there was something I liked better. I was definitely ready to buy some (it was my parents’ birthday present to me), but I wasn’t sure exactly what.
And boy, am I ever glad I actually went to the store one last time!
What I ended up buying was a set called American Chippendale by Wallace. It was originally $100 for the set, but it was marked down to $70, and I had a 20% off coupon. However, they were completely sold out of that set at the store I visited. The salesperson I asked said that I could go ahead and order the set, and they’d see if they could find it at another store. It was sort of limited, so there was no guarantee, but if they found one I would have it shipped to me at home without having to pay shipping. That sounded like a pretty good deal to me, so I bought it. My grand total was $63.99.
So, luckily for me, I got my set of flatware last night! And holy moley, was it ever a good deal. It’s a 107 piece set. Yeah. One hundred and seven pieces. This stuff is practically cheaper than plastic!
So what I got in this set was service for 12 (salad fork, place fork, place knife, place spoon, teaspoon), plus 12 extra teaspoons, 12 extra salad forks, 12 steak knives (!), 2 regular serving spoons, 2 pierced serving spoons, 2 cold meat forks, 1 butter knife, 1 sugar spoon, 1 pie server, and a carving set (meat fork and sharp knife). So much good stuff here!
The best part is, I could totally have 10 of my closest friends over, and have enough flatware to serve an extra elaborate meal and never have to wash any flatware in between courses. And it all matches! And it’s really quite good quality stuff!
Since no blog post is as fun as one with pictures, here are some that I took last night. I’m blaming the poor picture quality on the light – not only is it hard to take pictures in low light, it is so not worth doing anything interesting with them.
Exciting, isn’t it?

Woot woot! That really is a good deal, wow, and I’m glad you finally got them because I know how much you were looking forward to this. Domestic geek, hehehe.
Yeah, well, somebody’s got to be the domestic geek.
As I told the fiancé, if I get all excited over household goods, we both get to enjoy a much more attractive domestic aesthetic.
And then I reminded him that my getting all excited about household goods is often one of the few things that gets me to do significant cleaning, at which point he stopped making fun of me.
That’s an incredible deal! And I really like the pattern. They look like they’re nice and substantial without being overwhelmingly heavy.
They are!
I was actually a little disappointed to discover that one of the place forks is actually a little too curved. It’s not really a big deal, but it means it won’t stack correctly with the others. But at least I discovered that I really couldn’t bend the fork when I tried to make it a little less curved…since it totally didn’t work.
But they are nice and solid and substantial without being any heavier than any other flatware I’ve used. I’m quite pleased with the set and the deal.
